Martha E. Berry

Martha E. Berry, 87, died September 8, 2021, at the Scott County Hospital, Scott City.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1933, in Scott City, the daughter of Elisha Marion and Nerva Ellen (Garoutte) Dean.

A lifetime resident of Scott City, her first job was a telephone switchboard operator. She was also the owner and operator of Berry’s Lawnmower repair and worked with her husband’s seed company, Sam Berry & Associates.

She was a member of the Baptist faith, a 4-H leader, and served for a number of years on the Scott City Zoning and Planning Committee.

On October 16, 1953, she married Samuel G. Berry in Scott City. He died on Sept. 16, 2012, in Scott City.

Survivors include her two sons, Harold Berry and wife, Shannon, and Albert E. Berry, Scott City; three daughters, Patricia Snow and husband, Larry, Pence, Sondra Berry, Scott City, and Barbra Berry and partner, Tom Gibson, Scott City; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and special great-nephew, Troy Ohnick.

She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, one grandson, one great-grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside service was held at the Scott County Cemetery on Sept. 14 with Steve Payne presiding.

Memorial donations may be written to the Martha Berry Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Homes, Box 553, Scott City, Ks. 67871. Interment was in the Scott County Cemetery.
