Marvin Roberts

Marvin Roberts, 82, died April 23, 2024, at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1941, at Quinter, the son of Carlos D. and Elizabeth L. (Bentley) Roberts.

He married Opal M. Nelson on May 29, 1971, at Rush Center. She survives.

Marvin graduated from Dighton High School in 1959. He served with the United States Army in Vietnam in an artillery division. After his discharge he returned to Lane County where he was a lifelong farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the Shields United Methodist Church and later the Dighton United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and boards of both. He was a longtime Lane County Hospital board member and a 4-H leader and supporter.

Marvin enjoyed trips to the Colorado mountains for four-wheel drive jeep adventures, bluegrass festivals, trips to historical places and observing oil wells and drillings in Lane County.

He had a large shark tooth and fossil collection that he gathered. His special joy though was following his kids and grandchildren to sporting and other activities down to taking Ella prom dress shopping.

He is also survived by his sons, Glenn C. Roberts and wife, Rene, Dighton, Ross S. Roberts and wife, Kimberly, Scott City, and Darren P. Roberts and wife, Jessica, Shields; brothers, Allen Roberts, Bismarck, Ark., and Carl Roberts, Shields; sisters, Ellen Mc-Cue, Wichita, and Vada Winger of Bertram, Tex.; and seven grandchildren, Ella, Christopher, Dakota, Spencer, Daisy, Ravanna and Ava.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

The funeral service was held April 29 at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with Rev A.G. Turner officiating. A private family burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
