Matthew J. Spangler

Matthew J. Spangler, 39, died, Oct. 30, 2021, at the North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, Colo.

He was born on March 4, 1982, in Scott City, the son of Les and Mary Ann (Flakus) Spangler.

Matthew was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City.

He was a 2001 Scott graduate of Community High School, moving to Lawrence where he lived for eight years while working as a chef for Westside Deli and Milton’s, both in Lawrence, and then at Blind Box Barbeque, Shawnee.

Matthew moved to Greeley, Colo., in 2018 where he worked for Lance Brittan Construction. In 2019, he began working for Midian Homes, LLC, in Windsor, Colo., as a superintendent for new home construction.

Matthew enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours exploring the unique beauty of Scott County and Lake Scott State Park. He was a master with his hands, creating recipes, drawings and building furniture for those he loved.

Matthew loved to laugh. He was headstrong, curious, and sensitive and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Brett Spangler and wife, Elisa, Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and uncle, Steve Flakus.

A memorial service was held Nov. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Don Bedore presiding.

Inurnment was in the Scott County Cemetery.
