Maurice Dean Jeffries

Maurice Dean Jeffries, 86, died Dec. 22, 2021, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.

H e was born on Jan. 19, 1935, in Modoc, the son of Forrest Franklin and Mabel Leoti (Shearmire) Jeffries.

Dean was a resident of Leoti from 1960 until 2012 when he moved to Scott City. In 2014, he moved to Garden City. Dean was an AA member for 44 years.

He was the owner and operator of Jeffries Electric in Leoti until the late 1990s when he went to work for Maple Creek Farms as project manager for seven years before he retired.

He was a member of the Jehovahs Witness Congregation, Garden City.

On Aug. 12, 1954, he married Mona Rhea Burgess in Garden City. She died on Nov. 23, 2018, in Garden City.

Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia Becker and husband, Kenneth, Garden City, and Stephanie Fontenot and husband, James, Garden City; a son, N. James Jeffries, Leoti; a brother, Robert Jeffries and wife, Patricia, Modoc; four grandchildren, Jennifer Doll and husband, Mark, Garden City, Tori Jeffries, Healy, Jordan Becker, Norman, Okla., and Logan Fontenot, Garden City; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two grandsons and one great-grandson.

A memorial service was held Jan. 8 at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. Inurnment was in the Scott County Cemetery.

A Jehovahs Witness Zoom service will be held at a later date.
