Michael Wilkerson
Michael (“Mike”) Ray Wilkerson, 61, died on May 12, 2026.
He was born on March 31, 1965, to Raymond and Ina Bell Wilkerson in Ness City. Mike was the second of three children of the couple.
“Chip,” as he was known to his classmates, graduated from Dighton High School in 1983.
Mike never married nor had children but instead he had nieces and a nephew, and eventually great nieces and nephews, whom he took fishing and hunting.
Mike farmed and had cattle in addition to having a carpet cleaning business and raising Labrador Retrievers.
However, his most important job in life was being a caregiver for his mom. He selflessly gave up much for that job.
Mike loved the Kansas State University Wildcats, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, casinos, farming and telling stories.
He survived cancer multiple times and a series of strokes.
He is survived by his sisters Janet Offutt, Dighton, and Sherri Gipson and husband, Jim, Rush Center; nieces Amber Schmalzried, Sterling, Melissa Bowman, Sterling, Ashley Tokoi, Abilene, Regan Scheib, LaCrosse, and Dakota Gipson, LaCrosse; and nephew Dillon Gipson, Falcon; 14 great-nieces and nephews; his dog, Blanche, and cat, Rosie.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and great-nephew Gibbs Schmalzried.
