Minister Ervin Nightengale
Minister Ervin Nightengale, 99, died Nov. 12, 2021, at the Scott County Hospital.
He was born to Abraham and Elizabeth (Wedel) Nightengale on July 18, 1922, in Montezuma.
He moved with his family at a young age to Haskell County where he grew to manhood, receiving his education at the local Independence School.
At the age of 16, he heard the call of God and became converted, never doubting that cornerstone of his faith. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Min. Ervin Harms on Jan. 31, 1939, at Copeland.
Though life brought its challenges, he remained faithful to these vows to the very end.
He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on March 26, 1950, at Scott City by Minister Frank Wenger.
On Nov. 27, 1947, he married Juanita Unruh at Copeland.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include his three sons; James Nightengale and wife, Elaine, Charles Nightengale and wife, Phyllis, and Mark Nightengale and wife, Barbara, all of Scott City; nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers-in-law, Eugene Unruh and wife, Janice, Sam Jr. Unruh and wife, Jan, Montezuma; sisters-in-law, Vada Unruh, Maxine Schmidt and husband, Eldon, Sylvia Wedel and husband, Delton, Jeanette Nightengale and husband, DeVern, Montezuma, and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; his parents; parents-in-law; three brothers, Albert, Emil and John; three sisters, Lydia, Leona and Lorene: six brothers-in-law and eight sisters-in-law.
Funeral service was held Nov. 16 at the Scott Mennonite Church, Pence, with Ray Frank, Daniel Koehn and Sam Unruh, Jr. presiding.

Internment was in the Scott Mennonite Church Cemetery, Pence.
