Rex Eugene LaMastres

Rex Eugene LaMastres, 75, died Dec. 1, 2021, at his home in Grand Junction, Colo., due to complications of COVID.

R e x was born on Aug. 20, 1946, in Scott City, to Laurence Smith and Edna Ruth (Russell) LaMastres.

Rex was raised in Scott City and attended all his school years in Scott City, graduating in 1964. He was also raised in the Pilgrim Holiness Church.

After high school, Rex went to California and joined the Navy. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam as a corpsman and also maintenance.

While in Vietnam, he helped build a church. His parents received a letter of recognition for a job well done from his commanding officer.

Survivors include his children, Jeneane Mullin, Josh LaMastres and Jessica LaMastres; brothers, Harry LaMastres, Independence, Mo., Howard LaMastres and wife, Barbara, Wichita, and Mark LaMastres and wife, Lisa, Garden City; sister, DeeAnn Troutman and husband, Cecil, Florence, Colo.; eight grandchildren, of Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Kay LaMastres, Independence, Mo., and Karen LaMastres, Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dwayne LaMastres and Ray LaMastres; sister-in-law, Mae LaMastres; and nephews Larry LaMastres and Preston LaMastres.

A graveside service was held on Jan. 7 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Mesa County, Colo.
