Richard Schroder

Richard Schroder, 76, Lenexa, died Nov. 19, 2021.

H e was born on August 11, 1945, in Topeka. He was raised by his parents, Carl and Sadie Biggart, and spent a lot of time with his grandmother and uncles in Oskaloosa.

Richard was a proud Topeka High School graduate. He went on to graduate from Washburn University with a Bachelors Degree in biology and received his Masters in biology from Fort Hays State University.

Before his time at FHSU, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving four years of active duty, including a year in Vietnam. He remained in the Army as a reservist.

Richard was employed at KU Medical Center in the Department of Pharmacology and later by the Department of Plastic Surgery. He also worked at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

He went on to retire from Johnson County Community College where he taught certified nursing assistants.

He was active in the Civil Air Patrol, the Masonic Lodge and several appendant bodies, the Commemorative Air Force and the Overland Park American Legion. Richard was a deacon at the Shawnee Presbyterian Church.

Richard married Patricia Palmer on July 3, 1969. She survives.

He is also survived by two sons, William Schroder and wife, Amber, and Steven Schroder and wife, April; six grandchildren; and one uncle, Hiram Stockwell.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations in Richard’s name may be made to the Lenexa Masonic Lodge, the Commemorative Air Force or the Biology Department at Washburn University or Fort Hays State University.
