Robert Miller

Robert D. “Bob” Miller, 90, died Nov. 5, 2025, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1935, in Scott City, the son of Ralph Dewey and Lavon Oleeta (Hunt) Miller.

A lifetime resident of Scott City, he was a rancher and farmer.

Bob was an Army National Guard motor pool (specialist) for eight years during peace time.

When Bob was six years old, he attended Pyramid View country school in Gove County, completing the first and second grades. He moved to Scott City and attended Scott City Grade School (3rd through 8th grades).

He graduated from Scott Community High School in 1953.

He attended two years at Fort Hays State University and transferred to New Mexico A&M at Las Cruces, N.M., where he graduated in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in range management.

Bob had lived in the Scott City community since the age of eight, having moved from the family ranch in Gove County in 1943.

The government wanted the ranch land and other Gove County properties to be used for an aerial gunnery range so they had to move to town. He had fond memories of living at the ranch and spending summers there after moving to Scott City.

Bob was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the Registered Hereford Association, Kansas Buffalo Association, Gideon International and the First Baptist Church, Scott City.

Bob served as a leader in Boy’s Club, a fourth and fifth grade Sunday School teacher, trustee, and usher.

He participated in mission trips to the Navajo Reservation in Low Mountain, Ariz. He was active in the Baptist Church Disaster Relief Program, was a volunteer with the Wycliffe Bible Association and went to Bogota, Columbia, on a work mission trip.

Bob was also a volunteer for the local Boy Scouts troop. For 10 years he was co-owner with his sister, Karen Hoover, of The Brotherhood Bookshelf, a Christian bookstore in Scott City.

Bob was also a Kansas Banker’s Association Award winner in Gove County for soil conservation (1995, 1999) and received the windbreak award (2004).

On April 8, 1972 he married Elizabeth L. Kottmann in Lyons. She survives.

Other survivors include his son, Joel Miller and wife, Dr. Calista, Scott City; daughters, Kristi Gorman and husband, Chris, Lacey, Wash., Heather Dick and husband, Mark, Aurora, Nebr., Meredith Cupp and husband, Chandler, Scott City, and Lindsay Andrews and husband, Scott, Scott City; brother, Gary Miller, Loveland, Colo.; sister, Karen Hoover and husband, Ken, Scott City; brother-in-law, Lou Kottmann and wife, Mary, Great Bend; sister-in-law, Lyn Britton and husband, David, Viroqua, Wisc.; 12 grandchildren, Jaden Gorman, Grace and Isaiah Harrison, Josiah Gorman, Alex Dick, Nathan Dick, William and Dalsy Cupp, Malorie Cupp, Jace Miller, Jocelyn Miller, Maylee Miller, Natalie Andrews and Abby Andrews; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vada Jean Miller; grandson, James Edward Cupp; and sister-in-law, Joye Miller.

The funeral service was held on Nov. 8 at the First Baptist Church, Scott City, with Chris Gorman presiding.

Interment was in the Scott County Cemetery.
