William A. ‘Bill’ Wright

William A. “Bill” Wright, 62, was born to Vergil N. Wright and Sharlene Wright in Alliance, Nebr., but soon moved to Scott City, where he spent his childhood.

He graduated from Scott Community High School in 1977 and attended Fort Hays State University, graduating with honors in 1981 with a degree in political science.

Bill then attended the University of Kansas Law School, graduating with honors in 1984 with a Juris Doctor degree.

Soon after graduation, Bill passed the bar and opened a law practice in his hometown of Scott City, and later expanded his practice to Garden City.

Bill enjoyed meeting others and did so in college as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the Student Government Association. He had a strong faith and will to help others in his law practice, and by his involvement in the Masonic Anthem Lodge No. 284 in Scott City, the ISIS Shrine of Salina, Scottish Rite, and the Plymell Union Church.

Bill was known in his community as an excellent attorney and a committed advocate for his clients in seeking justice.

Survivors include his wife, Annette; daughter, Reagan, Garden City; stepsons, Blake Thackery and wife, Kayla, Garden City, and their children Decker, Brantley, Kannon and a baby girl (May 2022); Brendon Thackery and wife, Hillary, Wichita, and their children, Harper and Finley, and Brett Thackery and wife, Brooke, New Braunfels, Tex., and their children, LaiLee, Jaxon, and a baby girl (July 2022); his parents, Wichita; sister, Amy Arnhold and husband, Jeff, Andover; nephew Zachary Arnhold, Andover; uncle, Alan Wright and wife, Donna, Valencia, Calif.; and cousins, Stephen Wright and wife, Michelle, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bill Reed and wife, Lori, Winter Garden, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his grandparent,s William and Francis Reed and Alfred and Alda Wright.

A Celebration of Life was held January 5 at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City.
