The dumbing down of America

As if the dumbing down of America wasn’t happening fast enough, the Texas State Board of Education has decided to put its thumb on the scale and advance a politically and theologically driven agenda that will accelerate the process.

In order to “streamline” the learning process, the board has decided that too much time is spent learning about too many people who have shaped - and are shaping - our nation.

The board complains that third graders are now required to learn about three dozen people as part of the history curriculum. Fourth graders must be familiar with about 70 and by eighth grade, the academic readiness social studies test requires kids to learn about 50 historical figures - none of whom are named Tony Dorsett or Troy Aikman.
