GOP cult a threat to democracy
At what point does a political party become a cult?
A question that would have been unthinkable - at least in the United States - needs to be asked if we are to understand what lies ahead for our democracy.
Cult leaders are often thought of in terms of religious fanaticism, as with Jim Jones and David Koresh.
Cult leaders are charismatic (at least to their loyal followers), they offer the promise of a better life, suppress individualism, demand unquestioning loyalty and see themselves as the sole authority of truth.
Let’s see . . . how many of those are on Donald Trump’s checklist?
