Tourism: There is tremendous potential on our door step

Western Kansans are often times our worst sales people when it comes to telling others about what this part of the state has to offer.

We think of eco-tourism that happens somewhere else while ignoring the opportunities in our own backyard.

The Scott County Historical Society has tapped into that potential on a very limited basis with occasional tours to the El Cuartelejo ruins at Lake Scott State Park and the Battle of Punished Woman’s Fork historical site. On occasion, those tours have also included Monument Rocks.

That only scratches the surface.
