Two wrongs:

Bailout is effort to cover up for disastrous tariff policy

During the Reagan presidency much was made of the so-called “welfare queens” who would reportedly arrive at welfare offices in Cadillacs to collect their checks.

Hyperbole? Of course. But it sold well to an electorate that detested government handouts and was looking for someone to direct their frustration towards, whether or not those persons actually existed.

If the Trump administration has its way, welfare clients will look a little different in the weeks and months ahead. Instead of driving Cadillacs they will be driving John Deere tractors and International combines. President Trump announced this week plans for a $12 billion bailout for farmers whose exports have been hit hard by China’s tariffs.
