As Congressional Democrats prepare for an impeachment trial of a president who has already left the White House and is taking up residence in Mar-a-Lago, the question being shouted by Republicans is, “Why?!”
What ever happened to the “personal responsibility” we’ve so often heard Republicans prattle on about?

Even after MAGA-hat wearing insurrectionists got their marching orders moments earlier from the president. Even after these same rioters stormed the capitol building and vandalized the “people’s house,” the Kansas congressional delegation couldn’t, in that defining moment, find the courage to say what needed to be said.
Congressman-elect Luke Letlow of Louisiana died of COVID-19 on Dec. 29 at only 41 years old. Although dozens of members and staff in Congress have tested positive for the virus, he is the first elected federal official to die from it.
