‘Crazy year for average yields’

On paper, this is shaping up to be an average wheat harvest for many area farmers.

But the forces of nature and man have made this anything but an average year as a long, drawn out harvest comes to an end.

“When we wrap everything up, this is going to look like a normal year when it’s been anything but that,” says Brian Vulgamore, who farms with his brother, Myles, across southern Scott County as well as in the adjoining counties.
