Ability to work with new governor, each other will challenge lawmakers
The Kansas Legislature finds itself in an unusual position.
For the first time in years it has money in the treasury and many Republican lawmakers, for the first time, will experience what it’s like to deal with a governor of a different political party.
“I’ve served under a Democrat administration before,” says State Rep. Don Hineman, who is starting his 11th year in the legislature.
“But there’s been such a turnover among legislators over the past few years that most don’t understand that dynamic.
