BOE decides dome gym is out; location of SCMS wing is settled
After weeks of weighing the pros and cons and dollars, the USD 466 (Scott County) board of education has finally reached a consensus for what upgrades will look like at Scott City Middle School.
The middle school contains the most significant features in a $25 million bond issue that will go before voters in November. And one of the big ticket items on that list is a new competition gym that will be located on the SCMS grounds.
The board’s objective has been to construct a top-feed facility, similar to gymnasiums at Ulysses, Lakin and Cimarron. In an effort to trim more than $1 million from the cost, the board opted for a 180-foot dome that would be a top-feed facility.
