City okays upgrades to water wells
Two of Scott City’s water wells are in need of major upgrades that could cost in excess of $40,000.
The city council was informed that well No. 9 is off-line and in need of a new submersible pump that will cost about $9,000.
However, Public Works Director Mike Todd is also recommending that Innovative Technologies, Ellis, be contracted to determine why pumps have such a short lifespan at the well. He said that prior to the current failure, new submersible pumps had to be installed in 2004, 2009 and 2014.
The well averages only about 3,600 hours a year.
