County oks new emergency warning system

An emergency warning system that will send messages directly to iPhones, other mobile devices or a home computer has been approved by Scott County Commissioners.

Emergency Preparedness Director Tim Stoecklein presented commissioners with details of the program at Tuesday’s meeting. He hopes to have the system operational for Scott County residents by late March.

The system will allow residents to receive texts, e-mails or use social media messaging to be notified of storm warnings, tornado alerts or manmade disasters such as a chemical spill.
