Defying the odds
The early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic took a heavy financial toll on the Scott County Hospital.
Hospital CEO Mark Burnett says that losses from mid-March to mid-May, while a statewide lockdown was in effect, resulted in a revenue loss of about $2 million.
“That’s a lot to absorb,” Burnett understates. “We were somewhat fortunate. We had cash reserves which a lot of hospitals don’t have. That kept us from laying off employees.”
