High winds, heavy snow cut power to many in area
An unusual December rain, followed by blizzard conditions provided a bad combination for Scott County residents starting in the early morning hours of Dec. 27.
At one time, more than 3,400 customers of Wheatland Electric were without power for several hours.
Rural Scott County and Kearny County (everything outside Lakin) were hardest hit by the power outrage. However, a number of customers in the western half of the Wheatland service area - including Wichita, Greeley and Hamilton counties, and a small part of Finney County - were also affected.
