home, at last!

It’s been a long journey for Scott City’s first arrival of ‘19

Life isn’t easy. But no one expects to learn that lesson in the first few weeks of life.

Enrique Oliver Alvarez was the first baby born at the Scott County Hospital in 2019, but that distinction soon became secondary to Jose Alvarez and Chelsea Amerine and their newborn son. Because of respiratory complications, Enrique had to spend the first week of his life at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, where he was attached to a ventilator.

It wasn’t until 15 days after he was born that Enrique was able to come home for the first time.
