Restoring history

One-room schools disappearing from Western Kansas landscape

The one-room school house is an iconic part of Kansas history.

And there was a time when they were a common site on the Kansas landscape.

In Scott County alone there were once 41 of the one-room and, on occasion, two-room school houses.

Today, only two remain on their original site. Deb Lawrence and Jim Rodenbeek are hoping to build enough interest - and raise enough donations - to restore one of those structures so it can be a mini-museum.
