Sheriff’s dept. investigates dog attack, death

A fight between two dogs that led to one being killed is currently being investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.

While not all details of the incident are known, Sheriff Glenn Anderson approached county commissioners on Tuesday to determine how much they want to be involved in ruling whether or not a dog should be labeled “dangerous.”

The county currently has no ordinance which would give it authority over dogs running atlarge, though there is a provision within state statute. State law makes it a Class B misdemeanor to allow a dangerous animal to run at-large.

Anderson says there is nothing in place at the county level which identifies a dog as “dangerous” or “mean” or which addresses dogs at-large.
