Spencer tragedy gave birth to $1.3M legacy

Eight years after an airplane crash claimed the lives of a Scott City family, their memory continues to make a lasting impact on the community.

To date, the Spencer Family Memorial Fund has been responsible for fundraisers, grants and continuing donations of more than $1.3 million. Most of those donations have passed through the Scott Community Foundation.

Primary beneficiaries of that money have been the Spencer Flight and Education Center (SFEC) located at the Scott City Airport and the walking trail that continues to be developed in Scott City.
