Property tax bill takes a bite out of taxpayer’s pockets

While many shoppers are delivering a hit to their bank accounts during Black Friday shopping sprees, their pocketbooks were taking another hit with the arrival of property tax statements.

Tax bills on real estate and personal property that fund every level of government - from the state to local townships and watershed districts - have arrived in the mail boxes of Scott County property owners.

To no one’s surprise, tax bills in most instances will be about 3-7 percent higher than a year ago. That was true of many homes in Scott City.
