Tours to bring in more than 440 for park grand opening

The opportunity to take a guided tour of Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park has far exceeded initial expectations by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.

KDWPT had planned seven guided tours for the grand opening of the newest state park on Sat., Oct. 12. When those tour spots were quickly filled, the department more than doubled the tours.

About 440 people will now be taking tours from about 11:00 a.m. to dusk on Saturday. That’s in addition to opportunities for visitors to enjoy the two walking trails which have been established in the park.

Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. with the grand opening at 10:00 a.m. Gov. Laura Kelly is scheduled to speak, along with Rob Manes, Kansas Director of the Nature Conservancy, and Brad Loveless, KDWPT Secretary. Area legislators and local officials have also been invited to attend.
