Bettie Lee Murphy

Bettie Lee Murphy, 87, died July 2, 2020, in Dighton.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1932, in Alamota, Ks., the daughter of Jacob and Charolette (Voos) Hemel.

Bettie grew up in the Lane County area, attending local schools and graduating from Dighton High School.

It was there that she met her husband, Robert. They were married on Dec. 22, 1949, in Dighton.

They lived in California, Dighton, Hill City and Scott City over the years until Robert’s retirement in 1994, which led them to Harper, Ks.

Survivors include her children, Dennis, Scott City; Larry and wife, Marlene, Scott City, Kathy Lewis and husband, Curtis, Des Moines, Ia., Bob and wife, Pam, Scott City, Charlie and wife, Gail, Scott City, and Ron, Scott City; five sisters, Melva Knight, Scott City, Ila Boone, Dighton, Alice Rennison, Scott City, Shirley Ummel, Harper, and Linda Barlow, Anthony; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Ed, Reub, Cliff, Don, Delmar and Jake, Jr.; a sister, Nedra Sue; a son, Roger; three grandsons and two greatgrandchildren.

Funeral service was held on July 7 at the Dighton United Methodist Church with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating.
