Chester William Marker
Chester William Marker, 82, of Hutchinson, died Aug. 1, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living, Hutchinson. H e was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Scott City to John and Elva (Harper) Marker. Chester attended Scott City High School. He was a true cowboy, loving his horses, and was a huge fan of old time country music and western movies. Chester proudly served in the United States Army. He worked at numerous mechanic businesses and became self-employed doing the same. Chester also worked for the City of Garden City prior to his retirement and moved with his loving wife, Erma, to Hutchinson. On July 16, 1965, Chester married Erma Joyce Giesaking in Garden City. She died Nov. 20, 2012. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Lyons (Ralph) and Vickie Elsey (Virgil), both of Hutchinson; two sons, Jeff Marker (LeeAnn), Hutchinson, and John Marker (Michelle), Haslet, Tex.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Chester was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Rodney Marker; brothers, Lyle, Earl, Orland Gay and Albert Marker; and sister, Beatrice Walters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held August 6 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Henry Blickhahn officiating. Burial followed at Eastside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
