Dona Dee Carpenter
Dona Dee Carpenter, 94, died Dec. 20, 2020, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Scott County, the daughter of Leo R. and Alice (Goertz) Jewell.
Dona was a lifetime resident of Scott City and a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and UMW, both Scott City.
She was also a very active member of the community, serving on the Park Lane Nursing Home board of directors for over 30 years, was a Pink Lady for the Scott County Hospital Auxiliary, active with the Scott Community Foundation, cooked funeral dinners and was involved with other activities at the church.
She was also a member of the Community Concert board in Garden City and farmed with her family,
Dona was a former recipient of the Scott County “Volunteer of the Year” award, was a Girl Scout leader, and donated land for the Veteran’s Memorial Park on K96 Highway.
On July 20, 1944, she married William G. Carpenter in Hays. He died Dec. 27, 1996, in Lincoln, Nebr.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie John and husband Roger, Phillipsburg; six grandchildren, Bill John and wife, Kandi, Scott City, Lori Stephens, Brock, Tex., Todd John and wife, Kim, Bolivar, Mo., Lisa Long and husband, Ryan, Parker, Colo., Megan John, Stanley, N.C., and Liz O’Bleness and Eric Tanner, New Orleans, La.; 11 great-grandchildren, and 11 greatgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Gloria O’Bleness; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral service was held Dec. 29 at the First United Methodist Church, Scott City, with Rev. Larry Danforth presiding.
