Harold Dean Stewart

Harold Dean Stewart, 77, died Sept. 26, 2018, at the Morton County Hospital, Elkhart. H e was born Sept. 15, 1941, in Grigston, the son of Tom and Mildred (Payton) Stewart. He moved to Scott City in the fifth grade, graduating in 1960 from Scott Community High School. He attended barber school in Wichita. Dean was a barber in Garden City, Scott City and Elkhart since 1971. He also worked as a maintenance man in the Ulysses, Johnson and Elkhart school districts; worked at the helium plant in Keyes, Okla., and Dumas, Tex.; and operated the Elkhart Theatre. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-65. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. On June 11, 1966, he married Betty L. Martin in Ness City. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Teresa Ferguson and husband, Roscoe, Hooker, Okla., Corinna Kerbo and husband, Jack, Keyes, Okla., Bylle Evans and husband, James, Elkhart, and Harold Dale Stewart and wife, Stacey, Wylie, Colo.; two brothers, Jimmie Stewart, Garden City, and Preston Stewart, Ellicott, Colo.; one sister, Faye Ghan, Ulysses; and 13 grandchildren: Misty Parker, Tiffany Smith, Crystal O’Hara, Jack Kerbo, Jr., Jessica Whitaker, Jake Kerbo, Nick Evans, T.J. Evans, Jamie Lewis, Tyler Evans, Andra Gutierrez, Harold Dylan Stewart, and Oliver Stewart; and 12 great-grandchildren. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Memorial service will be held Sat., Oct. 6, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at Church of Christ in Elkhart, Ks., with Gary Talbert officiating.
