James David ‘J.D.’ Hickert

James David “J.D.” Hickert, 37, died Nov. 4, 2020, as the result of an automobile accident in Scott County.

H e was born on Oct. 2, 1983, in Colby, the son of Dave and Marcia (Ayers) Hickert.

J.D. grew up in Bird City and was a 2002 graduate of Cheylin High School. A resident of Scott City since 2012, moving from Colby, he was an electrician and worked for S-K Electric of Scott City.

He was a graduate of Northwest Kansas Technical College, Goodland, in electrical training.

On Oct. 15, 2005, he married Laura Gossman in Scott City. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Ashleigh Hickert and Haileigh Hickert, Scott City; one son, Ethan Hickert, Scott City; parents; one sister, Anne Gossman and husband, Clint, Scott City; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Veta Gossman, Scott City; and numerous brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jeremy Gossman.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 10 at the First Baptist Church, Scott City, with Pastor Don Williams officiating.
