James E. ‘Jim’ Hayes

James E. (Jim) Hayes, 82, died May 4, 2018, in Wichita. He was born June 29, 1935, in Crofton, Ky., the son of Richard E. and Annie (James) Hayes. He was a resident of Leoti since 1966, moving from Kalvesta. He was the owner/operator of Hayes Sales and Service in Leoti. He was a member of the United Methodist Church as the Sunday school superintendant. He was active in the Leoti Lions Club, Leoti Area Chamber of Commerce, High Plains Educational Cooperative board of directors, Goodland Area Vo-Tech board of directors and USD 467 board of education. On July 22, 1961, he married Rosetta Woods in Cimmaron. She survives. Other survivors include: one son, Brian Hayes, Wichita; three daughters, Dayla Jensen and husband, James, Shannon Hayes, Shonda Hayes and Vince Evans, all of Wichita; one sister, Glenda Luttrull, Trenton, Ky.; one brother, Donnie Hayes and wife, Monna, Sacramento, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Annette Coker; and one granddaughter, Schuyler Carlson. Funeral service will be held Fri., May 11, 10:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with Rev. Brad Kirk officiating. Burial will be in the Leoti Cemetery. In celebration of Jim and his family, there will be a dinner at the Wichita County Community Building following committal services. All are asked to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Leoti EMTs in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, 114 S. 4th, Box 161, Leoti, Ks. 67861.
