Janis Louise (Whitmore) Pritts
Janis Louise (Whitmore) Pritts was born to Ray and Verde Whitmore in a sod house in Scott County on Nov. 21, 1932.
She died April 17, 2020, after family farewells.
As a young girl, she worked in Scott County as a waitress, milking cows for neighbors and caring for young children.
In Oklahoma, she worked as a cook and also worked in pediatrics. She worked as a CNA in nursing homes and hospitals.
She persevered and was a strong lady even though she had a rough life raising five children on her own. Janis and her five kids moved to Goodland, Ks., in 1968 where she accomplished getting her GED in 1969.
She also held a job as secretary in Goodland where she met her second husband, Ed. They were married in 1973.
She is survived by her children, Vivian Lane and husband, Marshall, Kathi Majernik and husband, John, Marjorie Dodd and husband, Mike and John Carl, Jr.; siblings, Dr. Richard Whitmore and wife, Shirley, Josie Bonorris, Jim Whitmore and wife, Kathy, and Ethel VanCampen and husband, Richard; seven grandchildren Casey Vetter, Calvin Dodd, Amanda Truan, Katie Cupp, Matthew Majernik, and Melissa and Michael Carl; and 11 great-grandchildren Colten, Darian, Isis, Jake, Coy, Paige, Abigail, Audrey, Addison, Alexandria and Zachariah “Ry.”
Janis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Everett “Ed” Pritts; a son, Timothy Carl; and her brother, David Whitmore.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to her daughter, Kathi Majernik, to be used for final expenses and may be sent to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, Ks. 67735.
Graveside services will be held at the Goodland Cemetery on June 10 at a time to be determined.
