John Walter Black

John Walter Black, 74, died Sept. 7, 2017, in Lee’s Summit, Mo. He was born  April 8, 1943, in Dighton, the son of Clarence and Reba Black. He grew up in Scott City, served in the U.S. Army from 1964-66, and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He owned and operated Midwest Tire, Lee’s Summit, until he retired in 1998. In 1970, he married Earlene Langley, Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include: one daughter, Jennifer Coates, and husband, Travis; one brother, James Black, and wife Karen, Cedar Edge, Colo.; one sister, J. Fern Black, Centennial, Colo; and one  grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Hafliger. A memorial service was held Sept. 14 at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee Summit, Mo. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Scott County Pheasants Forever, in care of Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd St., Lee’s Summit, Mo. 64063.
