Johnny Joe Leal
Johnny Joe Leal, 49, died on Sept. 21, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1971, in Karnes City , Tex., the son of Frank M. and Maria (Martinez) Leal.
A resident of Scott City since 1995, moving from Karnes City, he worked for B&H Paving in Scott City.
Johnny was a real man with a heart of gold. He loved his Texano music, spending time with family and friends, and loved to make people laugh and smile.
Johnny was very passionate and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was also very close to his little sister, Maria, who he looked up to, and was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Laurie Hill, Scott City; five children, Patricia Barbosa, Scott City, Chaunna Hill, Orville, Calif., David Ruiz, Chico, Calif., Angel Derstine, Scott City, and Nathanel Derstine, Scott City; four brothers, Frank M. Leal and wife, Eva, Billy M. Leal, and Tony M. Leal, both of Karnes City, Tex., and Jimmy Leal, San Angelo, Tex.; three sisters, Olga Rojas and husband, Raul, San Angelo, Tex., Aurora Reyna and husband, Rene, Scott City, and Maria Leal and Joe Zapata, Scott City; three grandchildren, Mya Barbosa, Alex Barbosa and Jordan Barbosa, all of Scott City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thurs., Oct. 1, 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, Scott City, with Pastor Kyle Evans presiding.
There will be no visitation times. Burial will be in the Karnes County Cemetery, Karnes City, Tex.
