Joseph Gerstner, 88, died Nov. 13, 2019, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
H e was born on March 6, 1931, in Trego County, the son of Jacob J. and Marcianna (Rohleder) Gerstner.
A resident of Scott City since 1966, moving from Trego County, he was a soil conservationist and the owner/operator of Joe Gerstner Terracing from 1966 until retiring in 1999.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights Of Columbus Council No. 5212, Scott City, and the Kansas Land Improvement Contractor Assn.
Joe was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
On June 13, 1959, he married Sandra Crowl in Scott City. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Terry Gerstner, Hutchinson, and Denis Gerstner and wife, Angela, Scott City; one daughter, Sonia Baker, Leoti; two brothers, Rudy Gerstner and wife, Pam, Sun Valley, Ariz., and Wendy Gerstner, Trego; one sister, Caroline Klaus, Hays; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and one infant daughter.
Visitation will be at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, on Saturday, 2:00-8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Vigil service will be Sunday, Nov. 17, 7:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, with Fr. Tim Hickey presiding.
Funeral mass will be Monday, Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m., at the church with Fr. Warren Stecklein presiding.
Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City.
