Kathryn Ann Schieferecke

Kathryn Ann Schieferecke died Jan. 26, 2018. She was born on the family farm near Selden on May 31, 1937, to Libory and Elsie (Schwarz) Wessel, the oldest of nine children. She was a 1955 graduate of Selden High School. Following graduation, she worked as a caregiver for area families and at the Selden cafe and bank. She married William (Bill) Schieferecke on April 18, 1960, in Selden. Kathy was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and St. Frances Sodality. She was a farm wife, in addition to being a 4-H project leader, quilter and seamstress. Survivors include her husband, of the farm; three sons Larry and wife, Janet, of Bennington, Bernie and wife, Wendy, Studley, and Ray and wife, Courtney, Parker, Colo.; five daughters, Eilene and Jim Minnix, Scott City, Linda and Larry Betzen, Wichita, Joan Schieferecke, McPherson, Carol and John Towey, Goddard, and Anna and Jesse Nippert, Wamego; three brothers, Robert and Pat of Selden and Bill and wife, Carol, Dresden; three sisters, Margie Blaske, Salina, Martha Wassemiller and husband, Fred, Monument, and Betty Hickert, Selden; 23 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Dellere; and two brothers, John and Art. Funeral service was held Jan. 30 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, with burial in the St. Frances Cabrini Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Fr. Vincent Thu Laing Mission Project, the Fr. Ben Saw Mission Project or the St. Frances Cabrini Church Building Fund through Mickey Leopold Funeral Home, 1024 Sheridan Avenue, Box 987, Hoxie, Ks. 67740.
