Kay Ruth, 73, died April 27, 2018, at the Scott County Hospital, Scott City. She was born Oct. 10, 1944 , in Ness City, the daughter of Jake and Bessie Etta (Brown) Helzer. She graduated from Dighton High School in 1963. She spent most of her adult life in Scott City and working as a dispatcher for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department for over 15 years, at Long’s 96 Repair, and was a certified nurse’s aide at Park Lane Nursing Home. She had recently moved to Dighton where she provided in-home care for the elderly. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Scott City. Survivors include: two sons, Richard Ruth, Scott City, and Paul Ruth, McPherson; two brothers, Larry Helzer, Winfield, and Jerry Helzer, Newalla, Okla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Norman Lee Ruth. Funeral service was May 1 at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating.
