L. George Evans
L. George Evans, 91, died October 21, 2020, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
H e was born on May 18, 1929, in La Junta, Colo., the son of Henry “Hank” Hobson Evans and Alice Goudy Allen.
George and Wanda moved to Leoti in 1956 from Crowley, Colo., and lived there until moving to Sharon Springs in 2002. In 2008, George and Wanda moved to Scott City.
He was a farmer.
George was a member of the First Baptist Church, Scott City. He was very involved in the First Baptist Churches in Leoti, Sharon Springs and Scott City where he served various ministries as a deacon, choir member, soloist and usher.
One of his passions was seeking to be a blessing to others.
George was an inventor, enjoyed flying and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
On March 17, 1951, he married Wanda Mae Baker in Las Vegas, Nev. She passed away on August 6, 2013, in Wichita.
Survivors include a son, Kyle Evans and wife, Shirley, Scott City; two daughters, Peggy Graber and husband, Wade, El Dorado, and Karen Crotta and husband, Lou, Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister-in-law, Bertie Evans, Leoti; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; a sister, Dorothy Reeves; and four brothers, Bill Evans, Robert Evans, Oscar Evans and Junior Allen.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., Oct. 24, 4:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, Scott City, with Rev. Kyle Evans and Rev. Wade Graber presiding.
