Marcella Drewes Otteson
Marcella Drewes Otteson, 99-1/2, died March 23, 2018, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City. She was born on a farm near Rolla , N.D., on Sept. 19, 1918, the daughter of Diedrich and Martha (Freier) Drewes. Marcella attended Rolla High School, graduating in 1936 as class valedictorian. Following graduation, she attended Dakota Business College where she learned secretarial skills and flourish handwriting. She continued to use flourish writing for high school diplomas, awards and graduation certificates for many in the area. She married Harold R. Otteson in 1945 in Roulette, N.D. They moved to Scott City shortly after their marriage. Harold died in 1992 from injuries in a car accident. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City. Marcella worked at various businesses, including ASC in Rolla and Schiller Photographic Co., St. Louis, Mo. For 10 years in the 1960s, she was a secretary at Century Refinery near Scott City. That was followed by 11 years as the Scott County treasurer. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Nelson; and two brothers, Walter and Henry Drewes. Survivors include a son, Gary, and wife, Ginny, Midway, Utah; nephews John Drewes and Terry Nelson; and a niece, Ellen Drewes-Stoen. Funeral service will be held Fri., April 13, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City, with Pastor Warren Prochnow presiding.
