Philip M. Cawthon
Philip M. Cawthon, 70, died on Aug. 16, 2017, at his home in Scott City. He was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Lamar, Colo., the son of Marion D. and Donna L. (Malone) Cawthon. A resident of Scott City since 2006, moving from Ulysses, he had retired from Williams Natural Gas Company where he worked as an operator for over 47 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. On Oct. 28, 1999, he married Marilyn Laney in Garden City. She survives. Survivors include his wife, Scott City; four daughters, Kim Deaton and husband, Harold, Garden City; LuCinda Ellis and husband, Gene, Port Arkansas, Tex.; Lauri Lira, LeMars, Ia.; and Paulette Titus and husband, Larry, Cañon City, Colo.; a son, Marvin Knoll and wife, Lori, Chanute; a sister, Debi Morgan and husband, Gary, Cañon City, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother-in-law. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Lakin (Ks.) Cemetery.
