Roy E. Brandenburg III
Roy lived his 74 years of life on earth from December 8, 1944, to October 25, 2019.
Born in Peoria, Ill., but growing up in Belle Fourche, S.D.
(class of 1963), Roy graduated college with a bachelor of arts degree in languages and twice attended summer school in Guadalajara, Mexico.
He owned and operated a motel in Van Horn, Tex., until 1980 before moving to Scott City.
His grandmother, Opal Sim, was a resident of Scott City and his brother, Scott, and family lived in Garden City.
Roy loved playing piano (sometime whistling as an accompaniment) - especially for his beloved United Methodist Church in Scott City.
It’s not surprising that Roy ended up in the hospitality business. Greeting and meeting people attested to his fact that he loved people of all walks of life. He embodied the sentiment behind a favorite advertising slogan: “Your Home Away From Home.”
Known to be an encourager of all, always lending a hand to the homeless, Roy was guileless and simple but profound at the same time.
As a lover of people and family, a niece made the comment, “It was always so hard to say goodbye to Roy because he was always wanting to shower on more blessings.”
“We thought he was special,” added a member of his beloved congregation. Indeed. And so say all of us. Amen.
