Velma Elizabeth Yost

Velma Elizabeth Yost, 91, died April 26, 2018, at the Scott County Hospital, Scott City. She was born Aug. 17, 1926 , in Scott County, the daughter of Edgar Karl and Flora Elizabeth (Bockelman) Strickert. A resident of Lane County, she graduated from Dighton High School in 1944 and attended the Bethany School of Nursing in Kansas City where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Red Hatters and United Methodist Women in Dighton. In her earlier years she was a 4-H leader and a member of the As You Like It club. On Sept. 21, 1947, she married Keith Paul Yost in Marilyn (Yost) Wamalwa, Denver, Colo., and Salituma Wamalwa, Kenya; two sons, Roger Yost and wife, Terri, Dighton, and Arlen Yost and wife, Sharon, Waterloo, Ia.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; two sisters, Hilda Thomason and Margaret Stoppel; and one brother, Albert Ehmke. Visitation will be Fri., May 4, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Funeral service will be Sat., May 5, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating. Interment will be in the Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the United Methodist Church or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, 145 N.
