Velma L. Corder

Velma L Corder died August 9, 2020, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1921, to Cliff and Ethel Granger in Manning.

Velma moved to Wichita County early in her childhood to a farm along Beaver Creek. She attended a nearby country school.

She graduated from high school in Scott City in 1940. She worked at the original hospital in Scott City until moving to Kansas City, Mo., in 1942.

Velma was a messenger for an optical company for almost 20 years. She later worked in a nearby cafeteria until retirement. After retiring, she moved back to Scott City where she resided until her death.

She belonged to East Gate Chapter No. 367 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended the Budd Park Christian Church in Kansas City.

Velma married Bill Corder in 1956 and later divorced.

She is survived by a nephew, W. Lee Rudolph and wife, Diane, Olathe, and his children, Shari Gamble and husband, Scott, Marion, Ill., and John Rudolph, Paducah, Ky.; a niece, Glenda Randall and husband, Richard, Scott City, and their children Tyson Randall and wife, Cris, Cummings, Ga., and Shelley Phelps and husband, Jason, Ulysses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Fern and Gladys Granger; and her twin sister, Thelma Rudolph.

A private family graveside service will be at the Scott County Cemetery with Steve Payne presiding.
