Wanda Depperschmidt, 83, died July 14, 2017, in Scott City. She was born Feb. 21, 1934, to Augus - tine and Catherine Depperschmidt on the family farm near Grinnell. She attended first and second grades at Grinnell before moving to Oakley where she graduated from high school in 1952. She graduated with nurse’s training from Marymount College, Salina, in 1955. She moved to New Jersey and worked in a hospital for one year before she became an operating room nurse at the New York Metropolitan Hospital. From January of 1960 until 1982 she was a night supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital, Denver. In 1980, she began working nights in the obstetrics department which was her favorite part of nursing. She retired in 2000, but remained on-call until 2003 when she moved to Scott City. She loved to volunteer at the Denver Cat Care Society and the Scott County Recycling Center. Survivors include a sister, Jeanine Call, Hays, a brother, Tom, Oakley; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Daniel. Wanda donated her body to science research at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
