‘Big 4’ earn Scott City 5th state mat crown

The Scott Community High School wrestling team did just about all it could on Friday to put itself in position for a state title.

The Beavers advanced three grapplers into the championship match and had another who was just one win away from competing for third place.

That was enough to give SCHS a 17-1/2 point lead over Hoxie at the conclusion of Friday’s action.

After that, all the Beavers could do was wait . . . and watch.

Scott City saw its lead shrink to six points over Hoisington at the start of the championship matches on Saturday, but the Beavers added two gold medals which was enough to claim their first team title since 2012.
