‘Fun run’ turns serious for FHSU crew at Lake Scott

It’s hard to turn off the competitive juices . . . even when you’re among friends.

What started out as an easy-going race among college teammates turned into a sprint to the finish with former Scott Community High School standout Brett Meyer winning the men’s 5k division in the annual Walk•Run•Roll event at Historic Lake Scott State Park on Saturday morning.

Meyer, who will be a junior at Fort Hays State University this fall, posted a winning time of 17:23. He was followed by track and crosscountry teammates Kaleb Crum (Lamar, Colo., 17:32) and Israel Barco (Elkhart, 17:44).
