Frances ends remarkable career with PR, 7th in 3A

Two years ago, while the rest of his Scott Community High School teammates were celebrating a third place finish at the Class 3A cross-country meet, Eric Frances had little reason to feel part of the celebration.

He was the last Scott City runner to cross the finish line in 83rd place out of 106 qualifiers in a time of 19:23.

While the day and the performance would have been very forgettable, Frances didn’t forget.

He was determined not to let that happen again.

During each of the past two seasons he qualified individually for the state meet, culminating with a seventh place finish and All-State honors during his final race on Saturday.

His time of 16:41 was a career best anywhere in a 5k race, let alone the challenging Rim Rock Farm course.
